Hawaii remains the setting for the early season in the PGA, however, with the delays at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions because of inclement weather, there is almost going to be a straight run onto this event at the Waialae Country Cup. This is a par 70 course going at just over 7,000 yards and there is 500 FedExCup points on offer for the winner. PGA Tour Sony Open Golf Defending Champion.

Mark Wilson won the tournament in 2011 with a score of -18, beating Tim Clark and Steve Marino by two shots. It was his first of two PGA wins on the season.

Johnson Wagner came through a competitive pack here last season. The American had started the final round two shots back and during the final round there was a total of eleven players all within one shot of a lead. Wagner though was just solid all weekend and it was the run he strung together over the final twelve holes, going bogey free for a round of 67 that edged him to the title. He didn’t shoot anything worse than a 68 in any round at the event and therefore will be a great fit again for this year to try and defend his title. Had a decent enough warm up at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions without really threatening.
