The Honda Classic is a PGA Tour golf tournament that is played each March in Florida. It was founded in 1972 as the Jackie Gleason's Inverrary Classic. In 1981, American Motors (AMC) backed the tournament. Since 1982, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) has been the title sponsor.
In 2007 the Honda Classic moved to the Champions Course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, which is where the tournament currently remains. In the early days of the Honda Classic, the host course was the East Course at the Inverrary Golf and Country Club in Lauderhill, and included "Inverrary" as part of the tournament's name from 1972 through 1983. Other host courses in Honda Classic history include TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Weston Hills Golf and Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, TPC Heron Bay in Coral Springs, and the Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens.
The 2012 Honda Classic already boasted a strong field that included Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood. It got stronger on Feb. 14, when Tiger Woods announced he'd play at PGA National for the first time as a professional.

South Florida service members will be honored at The 2012 Honda Classic golf tournament, which will run from Feb. 27 to March 4 at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens. Military Appreciation events, honoring those who have served, are scheduled from March 1 to March 4.
The 2,500 square-foot Military Appreciation Pavilion will provide unparalleled sightlines to the final legs of one of the most challenging three-hole stretches on the entire PGA Tour – the signature par 3, 17th hole according to the tour’s website.
Courtesy of Wells Fargo and Dazskal Bolton, all active duty, reservists, dependents and veterans will receive free access to tournament grounds and the Military Appreciation Pavilion, Thursday – Sunday of tournament week. Free food and beverage service will be provided by the tournament’s preferred restaurants.
Tiger Woods announced his upcoming PGA TOUR schedule on Tuesday. Starting at next week’s World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, Woods will begin a stretch of three consecutive weeks on TOUR that will also include starts at The Honda Classic and the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship.
Tiger Woods is in the 2012 Honda Classic's field now, and he is my favorite to win the event. Granted, anytime Tiger Woods is on the golf course he could be the favorite. Yet, I believe his first PGA win in over two years will be the 2012 Honda Classic for two reasons. First, his game is coming together. Second, he will be having fun.
