With the second round of the World Golf Championship this week, there will again be a very limited field for the event in the US commonwealth. Nevertheless it gives us fantasy junkies another opportunity to waste our time and talk trash with our friends. Below are my top five fantasy golf rankings for the tournament in Puerto Rico:
1. Michael Bradley – Bradley won the event in 2011 and is one of seasoned veterans who made the trip to Rio Grande.
2. Jhonattan Vegas – Vegas has been up and down this year, but has such a strong drive that he can probably hit the ball to the other side of the 100-mile long island.
3. Rafael Campos – Campos is the best Puerto Rican golfers in the tournament, so expect a strong performance on one of his home courses.
4. David Duval – Duval has yet to have a round under 71 this season, but he is still one of the best putters on the tour.
5. Ryo Ishikawa – The 20-year old sensation has been playing great this year and is averaging a respectable 71.6 strokes per 18.
Angel Cabrera and Henrik Stenson have opted to play in the Puerto Rico Open rather than the Cadillac Championship this week.
It has been only three years since Angel Cabrera won The Masters and Henrik Stenson the Players Championship, but the fact that both are playing in Puerto Rico tells its own story.
Cabrera has slumped to 169th in the world and Stenson to 221st, but at least the Swede has started showing signs of a revival this season.
While 42-year-old Cabrera has yet to survive a halfway cut in three starts on the PGA Tour, the 35-year-old former Ryder Cup star, who had knee surgery during the winter, had a round of 64 as he came 20th at the Dubai Desert Classic and did not go over par once in his 21st place finish at last week's Honda Classic.
Tommy Gainey pulled himself out of the Puerto Rico Open scheduled to take place from March 8 to 11, 2012 at the Trump International Golf Club - Puerto Rico · Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
He suffered a wrist injury during last week’s Honda Classic at PGA National, and was, therefore, forced to withdraw.
Gainey looked disappointed, as it was the third time he withdrew from any tournament in the last seven starts he made in the season.
While Donald Trump visits his newly acquired Doral Golf Resort and Spa for the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, 132 golfers will compete at Trump International Golf Club in the fifth edition of the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com.
